Sandra Bullock Wins Best Actress
Sandra Bullock got a standing ovation, as did Jeff Bridges a few moments before, as they picked up the Oscars everyone predicted they’d win.
“Did I really earn this or did I just wear y’all down?” cracked Bullock.
She said she was in good company with fellow nominees Gabourey Sidibe, Carey Mulligan, Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep.
“Gabby, I love you so much. … Carey, your grace, beauty and talent make me sick. … Helen, I feel like we’re family. … And Meryl, you know what I think of you and you’re such a good kisser.” (That’s a reference to when Bullock smooched up Streep after they tied for best actress at the Critics’ Choice Awards in January.)
She welled up as she cited her mother, Helga, who told her that “… we are all deserving of love.”
Backstage after her win, reports USA TODAY’s Anthony Breznican, as Kathryn Bigelow accepted the best director Oscar for The Hurt Locker, Bullock took a moment to peek into the envelope presenter Senn Penn had given her. “Oh, I better double-check the name,” she joked. “Oh, good, it does say mine.”
