Top 3 American Idols Perform: Lee DeWyze, Casey James, Crystal Bowersox (VIDEOS)

Posted by Sam On May - 19 - 2010

On their last show before next week’s finale, the three remaining American Idol contestants sang two songs each — one they picked, one the judges picked for them.

Lee DeWyze had the edge on the contestant picks, covering Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man, a choice, according to Simon Cowell, that was “absolutely on the money.” By comparison, Crystal Bowersox went with a too-obvious Melissa Etheridge pick, Come to My Window, and Casey James underwhelmed with Eric Hutchinson’s bouncy OK, It’s Alright With Me.

Crystal’s bluesy performance of Paul McCartney’s Maybe I’m Amazed, picked by Ellen DeGeneres, was impressive, but Lee dominated the night with his show-stopping rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Between getting and making questionable song choices, then having to sing first, poor Casey James doesn’t stand a chance.

Here’s how I rank them:

  1. Lee DeWyze, Simple Man
  2. Crystal Bowersox, Maybe I’m Amazed
  3. Lee DeWyze, Hallelujah
  4. Crystal Bowersox, Come to My Window
  5. Casey James, Daughters
  6. Casey James, OK, It’s Alright With Me
