Anti-Sexual Assault Activists Slam Kristen Stewart For Ignortant Rape Comment

Posted by Sam On June - 3 - 2010

Twilight actress Kristen Stewart — who has been caught smoking marijuana and drinking underage in prior scandals on the Tween Scene — is facing another media onslaught after comparing life on the red carpet to “being raped” in a recent interview with a British style mag.

“What you don’t see are the cameras shoved in my face and the bizarre intrusive questions being asked, or the people falling over themselves, screaming and taunting to get a reaction,” Stewart, 20, told the July issue of Britain’s Elle Magazine. “The photos are so … I feel like I’m looking at someone being raped. A lot of the time I can’t handle it,” she said. “I never expected that this would be my life.”

Well, that deplorable analogy has struck a chord — not a good one — with leaders at the Rape and Incest National Network (R.A.I.N.N.). On Thursday, a representative for the group released the following statement criticizing the notoriously-awkward actress’ poor choice of words.

“Stewart’s comments are regrettable. Portraying a rape survivor in the film ‘Speak’ should have led her to use a more appropriate metaphor to describe the intrusive nature of the paparazzi. Rape is more than an intrusion, it’s a violent crime, that causes serious long term mental health effects for victims.”
