Trust great interviewers like Larry King to get their hosts to speak on the topics that everyone wants to hear. In a recent CNN television interview, Larry King got the Microsoft Chairman to respond to some interesting questions.
A few excerpts from the video where Bill Gates shares his views on some interesting topics <See video below>:
On Steve Jobs and Apple:
Steve Jobs is brilliant. He has done very good work. The times we have got to work together intensely on some Apple and Macintosh work – we have enjoyed sparring with each other
I wrote Basic for the very first Apple II computer. Microsoft wrote more applications for the Macintosh than any other company. When one company does well, it can kind of spur the other on. We are the two companies that really got this graphics interface to be mainstream which was a very big deal. Both Steve Jobs and I had a vision that it needs be low cost and easy to use.
On iPad:
I am not the best person to ask about iPad – I may be biased. Eventually, we want a device where we can browse and read and edit documents. Nobody’s got that yet. The Windows PC keeps getting smaller and better. There are specialized reading devices like Kindle, now the iPad. The iPad is still not the device I would take to a meeting, because it just has no input. The iPad is not there yet as you need to have input. You need to take notes and edit. Microsoft and a bunch of other companies are working on getting that final ultimate product.
The future computer:
The big thing is the computer is going to be able to talk and listen and see. When you walk up to your TV set, it will say, hey, Larry, here are the shows that you usually like to watch. You can make gestures. You can talk to it. In the future, we are going have to define what we want private and what we do not more explicitly. People have to think about when they want to be out of touch, versus when they want to be in touch, because the technology will make it easy for that to come together.
