It seems like every actor worth their weight must don a superhero costume at some point in their career, but Christopher Nolan’s top pick for the new Riddler came out of left field. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who recently starred in “(500) Days of Summer,” hasn’t been confirmed. But he’s “definitely on the short list.”
Keep in mind, this is the same guy fans hoped would replace babyface McGuire as Peter Parker in the next “Spider-Man.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Levitt attempts to play an eccentric action villain. Though barely recognizable behind the mask, he played the role of Cobra Commander, a disfigured mad scientist, in last year’s “G.I. Joe.” The movie didn’t fare too well with critics, but Levitt’s performance did get some positive attention.
Still, even Nolan was skeptical at first. While working with Levitt on his last project, “Inception,” Nolan took a particular liking to him, but rumor has it the casting idea began as a joke. It wasn’t until later on in production that it became a serious consideration.
Does the star of “(500) Days of Summer” have what it takes to play The Riddler?
