Bristol Palin Levi Johnston Engaged — Sarah Palin Left In Dark

Posted by Brad On July - 14 - 2010

Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are back together and plan to get married — in spite of the rocky history between their families.

Aww…it’s like Romeo and Juilet. Only with shotguns and moose.

Well! This certainly explains that public apology to The Palins that Levi curiously issued last week. Nonetheless, Todd and Sarah Palin sound less than thrilled with their oldest daughter’s choice of suitor — even if he is their grandson’s dad. In fact, the famous family didn’t even know of the marriage news until it appeared on the pages of this week’s edition of Us Weekly.

A statement from Bristol’s parents was read on The TODAY Show Wednesday: “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.”

Sarah and Levi have had a tempestuous relationship over the course of the past year, publicly trading insults and barbs in the media. In the past few weeks however, Johnston has appeared in the media retracting some of the unflattering jibes against his future mother-in-law.

Bristol and Levi, 20 — who famously called off their previous engagement two weeks after welcoming son Tripp in December 2008 — tell Us Weekly they reconnected three months ago while working out a court-ordered custody plan for their son, now 18 mos.

“We got engaged two weeks ago,” Bristol exclaims. “It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents.” She explains: “When he left that night, we didn’t hug or kiss, but I was thinking how different it was. He texted me: ‘I miss you. I love you. I want to be with you again’ … I was in shock.”

Bristol has become a staunch proponent of abstinence until marriage in the months since splitting with Levi and told Us that they will be abstaining from all forms of hanky panky until the wedding.
