A Long Island mother was arrested and charged with driving drunk after one of her own children called 911.
According to authorities, Jamie Hicks, 48, was swerving into other lanes of traffic on Interstate 84 in the Town of Southeast Sunday while her two children, aged 10 and 12, sat in the backseat.
State troopers located and pulled Hicks over after one of the children called 911, indicating to the operator that the woman was “not speaking correctly” and driving recklessly.
It wasn’t immediately clear which child called police.
Hicks, a resident of Islip, was arrested and charged under Leandra’s Law, which makes it a felony to drive drunk with a passenger 15-years-old and under.
The Long Island mother was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Court and later released on $1000/$2000 cash/bond bail that was set. She is due back in Southeast Court on Aug. 17.
