CC Sabathia has pitched better games, but he was good enough Wednesday in the Yankees’ 7-2 win over Texas in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. Nick Swisher and Robinson Cano hit back-to-back homers in the third inning to blow the game open. Sabathia allowed 11 hits but only two runs in six innings. C.J. Wilson, the Rangers starter went back ti his wild ways, walking four (one intentionally) in five innings of work. Game 6 arrives Friday and featues Phil Hughes against Colby Lewis. Cliff Lee looms in Game 7, which would be played Saturday night if necessary.
The loss of first baseman Mark Teixeira to a strained hamstring forced the New York Yankees to make a roster move – adding utility infielder Eduardo Nunez – and to alter their lineup for Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.
Teixeira will miss the rest of the postseason, no matter how far the Yankees go. In his place, Lance Berkman played first base on Wednesday, while second baseman Robinson Cano moved into Teixeira’s regular No. 3 spot in the Yankees’ lineup.
