Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Country Strong” Bombs At Box Office

Posted by Brad On January - 11 - 2011

might want to consider changing the name of her latest singing and movie endeavor, Country Strong, to Country Lame.  The film opened in an embarrassing sixth place over the weekend, only taking in $7.3 million in its first three days of release. That’s a few million short of its $12.5 million production cost. Ouch!

Gwyneth Paltrow

Do we have our first contender for a 2012 Golden Raspberry Award?

Gwyneth really should have known better, the last movie she sang in, 2000’s Duets, was also a cinema stinker.

Gwyn’s brand new Nashville-set flick – also starring Gossip Girl Leighton Meester – sees her play alcoholic singer Kelly Canter, who leaves rehab and hits the road with her manager hubby.

“You just get really drunk all the time. Which is awesome!” the Oscar winner revealed of starring in the musical flick. “At least I did anyway, it’s not very professional. There’s a Bloody Mary at 10 am and keep it going all day!”

Paltrow added with a laugh: “It was actually very liberating and amazing to play somebody who just didn’t think about consequences,’ she continued, ‘because I’m so responsible with my life, and too worried about everybody and my kids and where’s everybody going.”

True Grit, the Coen Brothers Western starring Oscar winner Jeff Bridges, took out the top spot at the box office, raking in $15 million. The cowboy flick was closely followed by Little Fockers. The latest addition to the Meet the Parents franchise earned an additional $13.8 million in its third week in theaters.
