Yesterday Christopher Lee, an anti-gay GOP representative from New York, resigned his position by reading his resignation on the House floor. He was caught trying to solicit some nookie from a woman on Craigslist. His statement read “It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York,” he said. “I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness. The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.” The woman was a 34-year old government employee. Representative Lee solicited her by lying about his age and being divorced. Girlfriend was not happy. She researched him on the internet and found out he was 7 years older than he had indicated in his e-mail and that he was in fact married. She forwarded the pictures and e-mails to Gawker. This just goes to show you that if you are a public figure and champion yourself as anti-gay, then you had better damn well make sure your own private life is in order. Otherwise you will be ripped apart by the public for hypocrisy. Is Representative Lee a faithful “family man”? Only after being made to pull his pants up.
