Del Monte Cantaloupe Recall

Posted by Copa On March - 29 - 2011

Del Monte Fresh Produce has voluntarily recalled 5,000 cartons of cantaloupes after thirteen cases of salmonella poisoning were linked to the contaminated melons. Typical symptoms of salmonella poisoning are:

  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal Cramps
  • Fever

Other than being extremely unpleasant salmonella poisoning is rarely fatal, and though three people have been hospitalized none have perished. Of the thirteen reported cases five were discovered in Oregon, four in Washington State, two in California, one in Colorado, and one in Maryland.

If you believe you may have bought one of the contaminated melons, which were sold between March 10th and March 21st in Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon or Washington, the CDC asks that you dispose of it in a sealed plastic bag to prevent animals from getting at the affected fruit.

And remember, beware the melon.
