During the Tuesday night Lakers game Kobe Bryant was benched for the third quarter after receiving a technical foul. Saying he was upset is an understatement. Bryant punched a chair and was caught on camera calling the referee an “Fxxx Fagot.” The footage only shows Kobe mouthing the phrase; and audio verification is not available. Kobe tell us how you really feel.
Like many others I was shocked when I saw the video. I honestly don’t know what to say and I am rarely speechless. I can understand that coming from an uneducated buffoon, but this is Kobe Bryant, a hero to millions. I hate to think that he really feels that way about gay people. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and hoping Kobe was just expressing his anger. In that case take some freaking anger management classes.
Now The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are involved. Jarrett Barrios, GLAAD president said “Discriminatory slurs have no place on or off the court,’ ‘Professional sports players need to set a better example for young people who use words like this on the playground and in our schools, creating a climate of intolerance and hostility. The LA Lakers have a responsibility to educate their fans about why this word is unacceptable.’”
