The Royal Wedding And Gay Activism

Posted by Darby On April - 19 - 2011

As we all know Prince William and Kate Middleton will be tying the knot on April 29th. Peter Tatchell, a London-based gay rights activist is using the royal wedding to push for gay marriage. Tatchell says “The royal couple are lucky. They have the option to get married. Gay couples don’t have this option. They are barred by law from marriage.’ ‘We urge Kate and William to support marriage equality: the right of same-sex couples to get married. Their support would mean a lot. They take for granted the right to marry. Marriage is something that many lesbian and gay couples want but cannot have.’”

This really pisses me off. Everyone and their cousin are trying to use the royal wedding to make a political statement or sell some cheap piece of crap. Someone’s wedding day is a very special and sacred time. The last thing that is going to be on the royal couples minds are whether homos are going to be allowed to get hitched. Don’t get me wrong; I believe gay people should have the same right as straight people to get married. However, I do not support ruining a straight couples wedding to push a political agenda. That is not any better than Westboro Baptist Church protesting servicemen’s funerals. Seriously, have some God Damn respect.
