Sunday night the barn of a gay man, Brent Whitehouse, was burned to the ground. Whitehouse not only lost his barn, but eight beautiful horses as well. The phrase “Fags are freaks” was spray pained on one side of the barn. His friends and neighbors have labeled this attack as a hate crime, which is obvious.
Whitehouse said “I couldn’t get the door open,’ ‘I could still hear the horses kicking and I tried as hard as I could to get them out, and I just couldn’t get them out in time,’ ‘”I just can’t believe somebody would do something like this and do this to poor animals.’”
My heart goes out to Whitehouse and his community. It has been my experience that hatred and bigotry knows no bounds and cannot be reasoned with. The best we can hope for is that these criminals will be caught and put in prison where they will become “Buba’s Bitch.” I also know that Whitehouse will be comforted by his friends and community. Hopefully his barn and horses can be replaced.
