The Florida sheriff who ordered the arrest of a Colorado man who wrote a how-to guide for pedophiles says he did so because the self-published book went beyond free speech and First Amendment protection — and could teach would-be predators how to victimize children.

Phillip Ray Greaves, a 47-year-old retired nurse’s aide in Pueblo, Colo., was arrested Monday at his home by sheriff’s deputies from Florida’s Polk County and charged with violating Florida’s obscenity law, a third-degree felony. During a brief court appearance on Monday, Greaves waived his right to fight extradition. He will be booked into the Polk County jail around 11 a.m. Tuesday and has his next court appearance scheduled for Wednesday.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said his office arrested Greaves because he sold and mailed the “horrifying” book — “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct” — directly to undercover deputies at an address in Lakeland, Fla., after being paid $50.

“This is a how-to guide to sexually batter children,” Judd told FoxNews.com on Tuesday. “It deals with techniques, avoiding risk of discovery and provided real-life examples of how to do this. That goes beyond free speech. No one loves the Constitution and the First Amendment as much as I do, but this goes beyond free speech.”

Judd said officials from the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Department were “very helpful” in arresting Greaves.

“He was not only a menace to the children in Colorado by teaching predators how to sexually abuse children, but by the fact he published [the book], any predator or would-be predator could learn how to sexually abuse children,” he said. “And when he delivered that content here, the depictions of sexually battery — that gave us jurisdiction when he sold and delivered it.”

Judd said the book contains two graphic stories depicting an adult engaged in sex acts with children, specifically adult genital contact and oral penetration with a 9-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy.

Judd, who has served as Polk County’s sheriff for the past six years of his 38-year tenure, said he relishes his role as a “crusader” against child predators.

“This is a very wholesome community based on the community’s standards,” he said. “This community does not want that kind of product that demeans the value of property here and increases criminal activity.”

Judd said Greaves will be booked into the Polk County jail around 11 a.m. Tuesday and has his next court appearance scheduled for Wednesday. It was not immediately clear whether Greaves has hired an attorney or would be appointed one by the court, a spokeswoman from the Polk County public defender’s office told FoxNews.com.

Some legal experts questioned whether Greaves’ right to free speech would come into play if there’s a trial.

“As bad as this book may be, the charge opens a very big Pandora’s box,” Dennis Kenney, a former police officer in Polk County and a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, told The Associated Press.  ”The charge sounds to me like a significant overreach.”

Greaves told FoxNews.com last month that nearly 300 copies of the book were sold on Amazon.com’s Kindle Store in 24 hours prior to its removal from the site last month. Greaves said he also received more than 3,000 complaints about the $4.79 e-book, which seeks to make “pedophile situations safer for those juveniles that find themselves involved in them,” according to the product description that was posted while the book was available for sale.

Greaves said he does not promote pedophilia, but that it “is something that I have sympathy for because of my own childhood.”

Greaves said he was exposed to sex when he was 7 years old. “I was not molested, but I was exposed to sex at an early age … Sometimes those relationships are positive. No, I do not advocate pedophilia. I just feel that I understand it.”

Heidi Jones, one of the New Yorks most popular Weather Girls has found herself in a pile of crap after lieing to cops with the ultimate snow job. The WABC-TV meteorologist is facing misdemeanor charges for filing a false police report after she lied about almost being raped.

On Monday, Jones, who anchors the station’s weekend evening weather coverage and often fills in on Good Morning America’s Weekend Edition, was charged with one count of filing a false report, a Class A misdemeanor.

Last month, Jones contacting police claiming that a man tried to rape her as she jogged in Central Park on Sept. 24. Heidi, 37, said she was accosted by the same man on 2 separate occasions while working out near her apartment.

The TV personality told cops she was jogging in the park the afternoon of Sept. 24 when a Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s grabbed her from behind, dragged her into a wooded area and attempted to rape her. The would-be rapist was scared off by two passersby who came to her aid, she claimed.

Detectives became suspicious after taking Heidi’s report, nearly two months after she claimed the incident occured. A lengthy investigation, which included canvassing the area for video and witnesses, yielded no clues or corroborating evidence to support Jones’ claim. In fact, cops couldn’t find any footage of a single Hispanic man in that area of the park on the day Heidi said she was attacked.

After being confronted with inconsistencies in her story, Jones spilled the beans on her the entire tale. It was all just one big elaborate lie, she told police. The meteorologist says she concocted the story to get sympathy after experiencing some “setbacks” in her personal life, The New York Post said Wednesday.

If convicted of filing the false rape complaint, Heidi Jones faces up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

WABC has suspended the scandal-scarred Weather Girl pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

A former beauty queen and University of Arizona law school student accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and torturing of her ex-boyfriend is going to prison.

Pima County prosecutors say 28-year-old Kumari Fulbright was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison and six years’ probation.

She pleaded guilty last year to conspiracy to commit kidnapping and aggravated assault as part of a plea agreement that stipulated the prison sentence. The Arizona Daily Star says it was up to a judge to decide how long Fulbright would be on probation after she’s released.

Fulbright and three men were arrested in December 2007 after the ex-boyfriend told police he’d been tied up and kept captive for eight to 10 hours, robbed and tortured.

Fulbright competed in the Miss Arizona contest and was named Miss Pima County in 2005 and Miss Desert Sun in 2006.

Tennis star Pete Sampras says most of his trophies and other memorabilia were stolen from a West Los Angeles public storage facility.

The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday that Sampras still has 13 of his 14 grand slam trophies.

But thieves took most of the hardware from his 64 tour title wins, two Davis Cups, an Olympic ring and six trophies for finishing world No. 1 in the year-end rankings from 1993 to 1998.

The theft happened three weeks ago. Sampras says he’s getting the word out in hopes somebody offers a lead.

Sampras retired in 2003 and said the loss is most upsetting because he would have liked to have shown the trophies to his children.

He says the loss “is like having the history of my tennis life taken away.”

Jay-Z admits he shot his older brother Eric when he was 12 years old, while he grew up in a Brooklyn housing project ravaged by violence.

The rap superstar and business mogul spoke about the incident for the first time in The Guardian’s weekend magazine, admitting he opened fire on his brother after he stole a ring from Hova to feed his drug habit.

“I thought my life was over,” he said. “I thought I’d go to jail forever. It was terrible. I was a boy, a child. I was terrified.”

However, Jay-Z was never prosecuted over the incident, as his brother did not press charges. In fact, Eric even apologized for his crack addition when Jay visited him in the hospital.

A woman posed as a physician and duped at least two other women into undergoing breast exams at her hands in Boise-area nightclubs, according to police.

Kristina Ross, 37, remains in the Ada County Jail on two felony counts of practicing medicine without a license. An Idaho judge set bond at $100,000 on Wednesday.

Police said Ross introduced herself to victims — one at a downtown Boise bar and the other at a nightclub in a Boise suburb — as a plastic surgeon named Berlyn Aussieahshowna, a name that turned out to be bogus.

The two women told Boise officers they believed Ross was a physician because of her apparent medical knowledge, and they agreed to undergo what they thought were breast exams, which happened at the bars.

As part of her ruse, Ross allegedly gave the women the telephone number of a real licensed plastic surgeon in Boise, the state capital, authorities said.

Staff at that medical office became alarmed at the number of calls they received from women in recent weeks attempting to confirm appointments or surgeries with a Berlyn Aussieahshowna, according to charging documents.

Medical workers on Tuesday alerted Boise police about the pattern, and they later arrested Ross.

Idaho court records show that Ross was arrested for petty theft in the spring and that the arrest warrant was issued to a Kristoffer Jon Ross.

The Idaho Statesman website reported that Ross has a previous criminal record as a man but identified herself as a woman and was booked into Ada County Jail as a female.

NBC station KTVB obtained documents from the Idaho Department of Correction which listed Ross as transgendered in 2004.

Her gender was shown in the documents as “MTF,” meaning male to female, in relation to a prison sentence stemming from an aggravated battery charge, KTVB said.

Cosmetic surgical procedures Ross discussed with victims after she touched their breasts under the guise of a medical evaluation included breast augmentation and liposuction.

The court on Wednesday found Ross was eligible for a public defender and set a preliminary hearing on the two felony charges for Dec. 1.

If convicted, Ross could face a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 for each count.

A Florida grandmother and her boyfriend were in jail Monday after trying to sell the woman’s 8-week-old grandson for $30,000, police said.

Patty Bigbee, 45, and her boyfriend, Lawrence Works, 42, were arrested and charged last week.

Bigbee is accused of having approached a potential buyer in late October, offering to sell the infant for $75,000, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said in a statement.

The would-be-buyer then contacted authorities.

Together, they negotiated the price of the baby down to $30,000 and agreed to meet, the statement said. Bigbee and her boyfriend arranged the sale for Friday, at which point officers swept in.

“Our agents were there to safely recover the child and to take the two individuals involved into custody,” said Heather Smith, a spokeswoman for the FDLE.

The infant was turned over to the Department of Children and Families. His mother is incarcerated on unrelated charges.

Bigbee’s bail was set at $100,000, while Works’ was put at $50,000, Smith said. Both are in the Volusia County Jail in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Arizona State student Zachary Marco was killed on his way home from the library in an apparent robbery on Oct. 19. He was 21.

No suspects have been found in Marco’s murder, and his father, criminal defense attorney Dan Marco, is seeking to change that.

Dan Marco announced during a live interview with CBS 5 News that he would ensure that one of the bandits gets the best legal representation, but only if the suspect turns in his partner who pulled the trigger.

“What I offer to him is that if he comes forward, I will do my best to ensure that he gets the best defense possible and gets a deal that ensures that he sees the light of day again,” said Marco.

Marco also said that since Zach’s killing, he doesn’t know if he can continue to represent accused criminals.

Police believe two men apprehended Marco in want of his laptop and cell phone.

Now there’s a title you don’t see everyday.

A naked woman took a Louisiana cab driver on a joyride this week, police said.

The cab driver picked up 29-year-old Jennifer Gille from a Covington, Louisiana, motel Sunday night and was instructed to take her to a local address.

But when the driver arrived at the address, the woman “refused to get out of the cab,” police said in a statement.

“To further complicate matters, the female began acting crazy and took off her clothing, demanding the cab driver take her to Michigan,” the statement said.

Instead of making the 1,000-mile trek to Michigan, the cab driver went to a local police station for help.

When the driver went inside to get help, the woman stole the taxi, police said.

“It didn’t take long to locate the vehicle; it was parked in a parking lot a block from the police department. Officers found the woman in the back seat of the cab still undressed,” police said.

Police later arrested Gille, who faces charges of obscenity and vehicle theft, said Capt. Jack West.

An Oregon State University offensive lineman has been dismissed from the team after police say they found him naked and intoxicated in a stranger’s home and had to use stun guns to take him into custody.

Corvallis police say they received the call about a naked intruder early Sunday.

Responding officers ordered 19-year-old Tyler Patrick Thomas of Kalispell, Mont., to get on the ground, Lt. Tim Brewer said.

Thomas refused and instead dropped into a three-point stance like a football player and lunged at the officers, Brewer said. At that point, he said, two officers fired their stun guns.

Brewer said Thomas “absolutely was intoxicated” at the time.

Thomas was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Benton County jail and later released.

A home phone listing for Thomas couldn’t be found.

Oregon State head coach Mike Riley dismissed Thomas from the team Monday, OSU athletics spokesman Steve Fenk said. Thomas redshirted during the Beavers’ 2009 season.
